Dr Zirwas operates a large clinical trial center with a focus on atopic dermatitis drug development, and his clinical practice is primarily limited to dermatitis patients referred by dermatologists and allergists. Prior to entering private practice, he was on the faculty of Ohio State University, where he also served as the dermatology residency director, and prior to that, the University of Pittsburgh. He founded successful eczema and contact dermatitis centers at both medical schools. He is a member of the North American Contact Dermatitis Group, developed the American Contact Dermatitis Society’s Contact Allergen Management Program, has over 185 peer-reviewed publications, and is a primary author of the 7th Edition of Fisher’s Contact Dermatitis. Dr Zirwas completed his dermatology residency at the University of Pittsburgh, serving as chief resident for 2 years, and graduated as valedictorian of his medical school class at that university.
