Joy Rico, MD, MBA, FAAD

Scientific Advisor

Dr Rico is a board-certified dermatologist with over 20 years of biopharmaceutical industry experience. She was the founding chief medical officer at Novan, Inc where she led clinical development for several dermatologic indications and supported the company’s transition through an IPO. Prior to Novan, Joy held executive leadership positions at Astellas Pharma where she supported clinical development, global regulatory submissions, launch planning, and post-marketing activities. Before entering industry, Joy served on the full-time faculty at Duke University and New York University. She has served on the board of directors for the American Dermatologic Association, the Society for Investigative Dermatology, the Women’s Dermatology Society, the Medical Dermatology Society, and Dermatologists in Industry. Dr Rico completed her pharmacy and medical degrees at the University of Florida, and received her MBA from DePaul University. She completed her dermatology residency at the University of Miami and immunodermatology fellowship at Duke University.
